Step Out of the Boat – By Sandy Wickberg

Step out of the boat!

One of the easiest ways we can “step out of the boat” and be the disciples that Jesus has called us to be is to reach outside the walls of our church building. This is called OUTREACH.

All of us are called to share our stories with others:

“Always be ready to give a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. However, do this with gentleness and respect, keeping your conscience clear, so that when you are accused, those who denounce your Christian life will be put to shame.” 1 Peter 3:15-16

Do you have to be a great communicator to participate in outreach? Do you have to be able to quote the Bible backwards and forwards?

The good news is that outreach has nothing to do with what we say or do. The Holy Spirit prepares the hearts of the ones we are meant to touch. That takes the pressure off, doesn’t it? All we have to do is be available.

We can love friends, family and community with-out being pushy and obnoxious. We can disarm our neighbors by sharing the kindness and generosity of God with them.
